Description

Safety barriers are one of the prime examples of the human mind’s ingenuity. Akin to the creation of sliced bread, and yes sliced bread was pretty revolutionary. However, the swagger in which Safety barriers have been introduced is just irrefutably cool. One could argue that the need for this gadget is inefficacious, as the role of current standing Barriers fulfils the niche in which Safety barriers encroach. But as we continue to indulge in the pleaser of Safety Barriers one realises something. That in a niche where competitors are not in competition for resources but instead in competition for safe and secure environments. Competition is an absolute net positive for the effected.

These Safety barriers are so virtuous and proficient at maintaining safe habitats, it is only natural to wonder if there are other applications of these mechanisms that could enrich our culture further. The withdrawal of the O-bikes from Melbourne left a gap that has now been filled by electric powered, two wheeled Mules. As what remains of the O-bikes rest quietly upon the sedimental floor of the Yarra River, the light of Safety Barriers secures them in place, beaming down through the ripples and currents of hazel water. Without these Barriers (Safety) in place today, history would be doomed to repeat itself, and the river bed would no longer be constructed of gravel, rock and mud but of Limes, Neurons and Beams.

What of this? What of the foundation of our river? With the divine protection that Safety Barriers bring, one can imagine a world entangled with their embrace. Where one cannot take a step out of line and possibly be hurt or damaged by that choice. Where the silly freedom of expression and desire is not able to seed pain nor disappointment. A world where we are completely shielded against the fray. A river directed towards the damned.

Pablo abhors this. Whom has the right, the virtue, the authority to juristic what another may do, say or be. Even in the paradigm of safety. The mother, perhaps. God, perchance, however no man. When control is utilised to organise power, there are always significant losers. The world described above is intended to elicit an altruistic utopia in a playful regard. But upon examination one will find a dystopia of liberty and agency of centralised authoritarian control. Safety Barriers in whatever form they come must be challenged and watched over cautiously. A warning from Pablo to not trust the rules.
