Description
As Lady Diana married into royal family and as Pope John Paul the second survived the attempt on his life the BBC was busy launching one of the most influential and honoured television shows of the twentieth century. On the sixteenth of September that year the first episode of Postman Pat was televised to live audiences all across the British commonwealth. Pat is a man of upmost character, a figure of positive masculinity and saintly disposition that is to all consumers of the show, family. Although Pat, in his red van (PAT-1) are at the heart and soul of the show. It is his ventures around Greendale and adventures with its occupants that form the base of magnificence that the spectacle of Postman Pat rests upon. Whether that be Mrs Goggins angelic appearance and gorgeous nature or Bill’s forthright leaps into the wider world and his proficient talents with a skateboard. The soft and welcoming British countryside where Greendale nests, personificates the individual’s spirits that inhabit the area. Ted and PC Selby both embody honest, creative and hard-working persons that the gentil nature of the British landscape help forge. The ideals of labour and the honour found within its toil are heavy themes in the show, Royal Mail alongside Pat never fail to deliver the post, Ted with his pioneering and peculiar inventions never fails to succeed despite all obstacle. The loyalty of Jess the cat can never be questioned, as she is somehow always in Pats post bag at the dusk of an episode.
This is the ultimate message of the show, that loyalty, honestly and handwork are unwavering pillars of love for one’s community and self. When asking what should be in the bag of life these principles should always be revealed.
